Challenge
Firalp's document management relied on multiple technologies. Procurement SAP documents were stored in OpenText, while documents for sales, projects, maintenance and technical areas lived in SharePoint through a custom-built solution where SAP only kept URL references. This meant several technologies to maintain, high OpenText licensing and maintenance costs, ongoing support for custom developments, an inconsistent user experience and added complexity for the SAP S/4HANA migration. Firalp's advanced SharePoint search also returned incomplete results, because OpenText documents were invisible to it.
Solution
As part of its SAP S/4HANA transformation, Firalp selected YAC (Your Attachments Connector) as its single SAP document management platform. New SAP attachments are now stored automatically in SharePoint, replacing both OpenText and the custom solution with a standard, SAP-certified product. Historical OpenText documents were migrated to SharePoint and URL-based references were converted into true SAP attachments. YAC also synchronises rich SAP business metadata — vendors, customers, purchase orders, sales orders, equipment, projects, cost centres — feeding Firalp's advanced search across every SAP business domain.
